Gabriel Fleming

Editor

Venice award nominee

Gabriel Fleming's diverse, 20-year editing career spans big-budget action films, independent art films, documentaries and scripted television. He worked on three of director Peter Berg's major features: 2013's Lone Survivor, 2016's Deepwater Horizon, and 2018's Patriots Day. Fleming edited the 2018 independent film Blindspotting, which was acquired by Lionsgate after its opening night screening at the Sundance Film Festival. Fleming also edited director Ric Roman Waugh's 2019 feature Angel Has Fallen, starring Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman, along with Waugh's 2020 end-of-the-world movie Greenland. Recent credits include 2023's No One Will Save You, directed by Brian Duffield for 20th Century Studios, 2021's National Champions directed by Ric Roman Waugh for STXFilms, and 2021's Trees of Peace, an independent feature from first-time director Alanna Brown about women struggling to survive the Rwandan genocide. Fleming started his career as an apprentice editor on a big-budget feature before moving to San Francisco where he edited independent films, documentaries and video art. He also wrote and directed award-winning micro-budget art films, two of which premiered at SXSW. When he moved back to Los Angeles, Fleming worked on independent features such as director Kelly Reichardt's films Old Joy and Wendy and Lucy, starring Michelle Williams, before serving as an editor on big-budget features.

Reviewers score the pacing 52/100 in their films, across 7 reviewed titles; fans 60, detractors 29. The element that speaks to their work as an editor.

Percentiles are each film's standing among all films on MovieCove; the typical film is the median, so one outlier cannot drag it. Percentiles and reviewer scores count the films IMDb credits them on, for now; the Midcredits score bands, the shape of the crowd and the two cards count their MovieCove titles, shows included (a show ranked among shows), appearances as themselves left out. A descriptor is the shape of a title's IMDb rating distribution against the catalog; "most divisive" needs a spread wider than half of all titles, and a card names only a principal credit: a craft role, and on a show a crew role or a run of episodes, never a courtesy credit or a one-off guest spot.
