Eshom Nelms

Director, writer and producer

Writers/Directors Eshom and Ian Nelms, grew up in central California waging two hundred man G.I. Joe wars and dreaming in John Ford Landscapes. Though their evolving passions temporarily took them in different directions - Ian went to college on a wrestling scholarship, along the way discovering a new interest for English and Literature, and Eshom pursued an education in fine art painting, but found the illustration of comic books better suited to his tastes - the two would always find themselves returning to their love of film. While Ian has produced various projects independently and Eshom has worked as a professional storyboard artist for over a decade, the Nelms Brothers always write and direct together and have made multiple award-winning short and feature films. In 2013, their film 'Lost on Purpose' won numerous festival awards including Best Film, Best Directors and Best Actress for Jane Kaczmarek. In 2015, they debuted 'Waffle Street,' which went on to win Woodstock Film Festival's Inaugural Carpe Diem Award for Best Film as well as Best Narrative Film at the Hollywood Film Festival. The latest feature film by the Nelms Bros., 'Small Town Crime,' stars John Hawkes, Anthony Anderson, Academy Award Winner Octavia Spencer (who was also an executive producer) Robert Forster, and Clifton Collins, Jr., The film was released in theaters nationwide on January 19th, 2018 and garnered great reviews from top critics at the NY Times, LA Times, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter among others. Reviewers score the atmosphere 66/100 and the pacing 54/100 in their films, across 5 reviewed titles. The element that speaks to their work as a director.

Percentiles are each film's standing among all films on MovieCove; the typical film is the median, so one outlier cannot drag it. Percentiles and reviewer scores count the films IMDb credits them on, for now; the Midcredits score bands, the shape of the crowd and the two cards count their MovieCove titles, shows included (a show ranked among shows), appearances as themselves left out. A descriptor is the shape of a title's IMDb rating distribution against the catalog; "most divisive" needs a spread wider than half of all titles, and a card names only a principal credit: a craft role, and on a show a crew role or a run of episodes, never a courtesy credit or a one-off guest spot.
