Jeremy Kipp Walker

Producer, director and editor

Independent Spirit Award nominee

Jeremy Kipp Walker is an accomplished film producer whose projects have earned two Oscar nominations, thirteen Spirit Award nominations, three Spirit Award wins, and three AFI Movie of the Year awards. Other career achievements include building ambitious studio divisions as part of production leadership at Netflix and LAIKA, as well as directing award-winning shorts and an audience-favorite cult movie. Walker began working in film production 25 years ago, gaining early recognition as a producer on HALF NELSON, which earned Ryan Gosling his first Oscar nomination. He went on to produce a range of lauded films, including: SUGAR, hailed as among the best sports movies ever made by The Athletic/NYT, The Hollywood Reporter, Newsweek, Business Insider and Forbes; COLD SOULS w/Paul Giamatti; IT'S KIND OF A FUNNY STORY w/Zach Galifianakis; MISSISSIPPI GRIND w/Ryan Reynolds; TABLE 19 w/Anna Kendrick; and THE BIG SICK, an Oscar nominated Sundance breakout. From 2015 to 2019, Walker served as Head of Production for Netflix's Independent Film division, where he helped scale output to 100+ films with an aggregate spend of $1.2B+ across 23 countries. After several years in the post, he chose to return to firsthand filmmaking, departing Netflix with a producing deal. He subsequently made two features for the streamer, each opening at #1 globally. He also co-founded Netflix's EFI program, an emerging filmmaker incubator. In 2023, Walker joined LAIKA as EVP of Live-Action Production, where upcoming films include Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck's ATMOSPHERE, based on Taylor Jenkins Reid's bestselling novel; Lulu Wang's AUDITION, based on Katie Kitamura's novel; Brian Duffield's CRUMBLE; and the currently untitled directorial debut from Oscar-nominated screenwriter Jon Spaihts. Alongside producing, Walker has cultivated a creative track as a director with longtime collaborator J. Anderson Mitchell. Their debut short, GOODNIGHT BILL, won festival top prizes, earning Oscar-qualifying status and Academy Awards consideration. Film Threat called it "a brilliant showcase of what short films are capable of achieving in the right hands - funny, touching and on par with any two hour epic". Their follow-up, SUPER POWERS, became one of IndieWire's "most buzzed-about" shorts, winning Tribeca's Jury Award and later amassing 1M+ views online. The pair expanded to features with THE HISTORY OF FUTURE FOLK, a micro-budget cult favorite that earned a Spirit Award nomination and a 95% Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score - with IndieWire ranking it among the "top 5 first features" of the year.

Reviewers score the atmosphere 62/100 and the pacing 46/100 in their films, across 62 reviewed titles. The element that speaks to their work as a director.

Percentiles are each film's standing among all films on MovieCove; the typical film is the median, so one outlier cannot drag it. Percentiles and reviewer scores count the films IMDb credits them on, for now; the Midcredits score bands, the shape of the crowd and the two cards count their MovieCove titles, shows included (a show ranked among shows), appearances as themselves left out. A descriptor is the shape of a title's IMDb rating distribution against the catalog; "most divisive" needs a spread wider than half of all titles, and a card names only a principal credit: a craft role, and on a show a crew role or a run of episodes, never a courtesy credit or a one-off guest spot.
