Silvano Ippoliti

Cinematographer · Died January 1, 1994, aged 70 · Cagli, Marche, Italy

Silvano Ippoliti (24 January 1922 - 1994) was an Italian cinematographer. Born in Cagli, Ippoliti entered the cinema industry thanks to his sister Iria, employed at Cinecittà, who introduced him to Anchise Brizzi, at the time the chief of the operators department. He began working as a camera operator in 1949 for the Raffaello Matarazzo's film Catene, then held this role for over a decade. He made his debut as a cinematographer in the early sixties and in 1967 he worked for the first time with Tinto Brass in the film Col cuore in gola; it was the beginning of a long professional relationship that lasted for twenty-five years, both in the fields of cinema and advertising, until the 1992 film Così fan tutte. His credits include also films directed by Giuliano Montaldo, Luigi Magni, Jacques Deray, Carlo Lizzani, Sergio Corbucci, Pasquale Festa Campanile, Lucio Fulci, Riccardo Freda and Emidio Greco. Reviewers score the cinematography 57/100 in their films, across 30 reviewed titles; fans 69, detractors 43. The element that speaks to their work as a cinematographer.

Percentiles are each film's standing among all films on MovieCove; the typical film is the median, so one outlier cannot drag it. Percentiles and reviewer scores count the films IMDb credits them on, for now; the Midcredits score bands, the shape of the crowd and the two cards count their MovieCove titles, shows included (a show ranked among shows), appearances as themselves left out. A descriptor is the shape of a title's IMDb rating distribution against the catalog; "most divisive" needs a spread wider than half of all titles, and a card names only a principal credit: a craft role, and on a show a crew role or a run of episodes, never a courtesy credit or a one-off guest spot.
